DIY Water-soluble film

Most films are waterproof. Here we show you how to make your own water-soluble film from a few natural raw materials.

Before you get started

If you are experimenting at home:
1. Let your parents know and discuss the experiments with them beforehand.
2. Do not eat or drink at your workspace.
3. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after the experiment.
4. Be careful and cautious with the materials.

Cornflour
Instant gelatine
Glycerine
Water
Measuring jug
Saucepan
Oven
Spoon
Kitchen scale
Plastic film as a base

Let’s get started

Small saucepan with starch mixture, which is stirred with a spoon.

1. Mix and heat it up

Mix
5 g cornflour,
4 g instant gelatine,
40 mL water and
4 mL glycerin

in a small saucepan and stir the mixture thoroughly. Place the saucepan on the stove and carefully heat the mixture over at medium heat. Stir the mixture well while it heats up.
