Make your own butter

Make your own butter, is that possible? Yes, you can! All you need is some whipped cream and an empty jam jar.

Before you get started

If you are experimenting at home:
1. Let your parents know and discuss the experiments with them beforehand.
2. Do not eat or drink at your workspace.
3. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after the experiment.
4. Be careful and cautious with the materials.

You will need

Approx. 80 mL whipped cream
A clean jam jar with lid

Let’s get started

1.Shake Shake Shake

Measure out approx. 80 mL of whipped cream with a measuring cup and fill it into a clean jam jar. Carefully close the jam jar with a lid.
Now it gets a little strenuous: Shake the jam jar with the cream vigorously for five to ten minutes. After a few minutes, you will see that the fat and water separate and lumps of butter form in the jar. If you have done a good job, you can spread the butter on a slice of bread and eat it. Enjoy your meal!

2. Dry the wet spots

Blow dry the filter paper with a hair dryer. The easiest way to do this is to hold the paper in place on the table with a pencil in one hand and the hair dryer in the other.
